Hendersonville, N.C. (WLOS) — There’s a new holiday attraction this year to downtown Hendersonville. An ice skating rink opens Tuesday by the visitors center.

America in Bloom and Travel Tourism teamed up to pay for the project. Local business owner Mia Freeman say it’s an idea that’s been discussed for years and has finally become a reality.

Freeman says a company from Greenville came to install the skating rink. It’s a synthetic rink, made from special polymers so it can be used regardless of the temperature. Freeman says it’s also safer for kids and seniors.

The skating rink is a fundraiser for the Henderson County America in Bloom committee. The goal is to bring more families to the downtown area during the holiday season.

The cost to ice skate is $8 for adults and $5 for children. Ice skate rentals are included in that price. The skating rink will be open from 10am until 8pm until January 1st. There will be special hours on the holidays.
