WSPA Staff – HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) — There’s a new attraction in downtown Hendersonville opening just in time for the holiday season.

People are invited to lace up their skates and take a spin on the rink that opens Tuesday, Dec. 20. It’s located at the Visitor Center at 201 South Main Street.

Made from special polymers, the synthetic ice skating rink can be enjoyed year-round in any temperature. Beginners can learn to skate on the synthetic surface with more control than refrigerated ice, tourism officials say.

Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children. Group rates are available for 10 or more skaters.

The rink opens Tuesday, December 20 and runs through Sunday, January 1 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Skaters are also welcome on Christmas and New Years Day when the rink will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The rink holds up to 40 people for 45-minute sessions.

For more information, call Mia’s Marketplace at (828) 698-4600.

The skating rink is a fundraiser for the Henderson County America in Bloom Committee. America in Bloom is an economic driver, designating communities nationwide as desirable areas to live, work, and visit. Cities, municipalities, and counties are evaluated on strict judging criteria, based on their location’s climate, environmental conditions, and population. Henderson County received 4 Blooms out of a possible 5, or 79% of possible points in 2016. Participating municipalities included: Hendersonville, Mills River, Laurel Park, and Flat Rock.
